august powell was not the definition of your dream man. he wasn't charming, nor was he very muscular. in fact, he was leaning more into the chubby side. his english heritage was to blame for that. food was just part of his everyday life, and excersize wasnt. no matter what hoss said, he just couldnt get into running. the occasional cardio workout at the gym was fine, he didnt want to become super fatty, but he was not going to be the next hoss. he liked his body. he was easier to cuddle. cuddling with hoss was like cuddling with a rock. but this was all beside the point. august was not who you would imagine riding on a horse coming to save the princess from the dragons keep. he was goofy looking, and he wasn't graceful enough to ride a horse.
but when he was with thalia, he felt like prince charming. he felt like he could gallop his way into the scene and rescue his beautiful princess. god, he loved thalia. he had loved her since that first day they had met in freshman year of high school. from then, they had been best friends and august had hid his feelings, believing she didn't feel the same for him. senior year arrived, and she had plans to go to school and join a sorority and he had ...no plans. work, and have fun. maybe start a band. and he couldnt risk losing her to some douchebag frat boy. he had to deal with watching her in high school have different boyfriends, but that was different. at least in high school he was there to watch and make sure the other boy didnt fuck things up. but if she was all the way in college and he was just working, he wouldbt be able to protect her. and what if she met someone and ended up marrying him? the thought had made august sick. so he decided he was going to do something about it. he told her. and things had never been the same. thank god.
the weekend was coming up, and finally august was going to see his girlfriend. with her in college, and he working full time at his best friends clothing shop, it was hard to meet up. the only times they got to talk was through text, phone calls, and skype. and he treasured those small and few moments where he would get to see her voice, hear her, or see her. but he wanted so badly to hug her. he wanted to kiss her and push the hair out of her eyes and cuddle her and just get lost in the moment. they were planning on going to a hotel that night, since august got off work early, and didnt have to work the next day. it would be pure bliss. just soaking everything up with her.
their plan was that august would pick her up from her sorority house, and together they'd drive to the hotel and have dinner and such. god he was so excited. it was like unnatural how excited he was. there were butterflies in the pit of his stomach, and the smile on his face couldnt be faltered. he stood in front of his mirror, trying to figure out what to wear and what to do with his hair. for the moment, he was just in some basketball shorts.
the decision was hard to make, but he finally settled on a pair of skinny jeans, a simple band tshirt and a striped hoodie. he slipped into his vans while glancing at his watch. it was time to go and retrieve the girl he loved more than he loved anything else in the world. he grabbed a small duffel bag and threw some shirts and jeans and underwear in it, along with a box of trojans. he shoved in some shampoo and shit, along with a toothbrush. he liked to be clean, and prepared. and he knew how much thalia liked to wear his shirts to bed. so he decided that extras would be helpful.
the butterflies in his stomach only worsened as he got closer to the school. his eyes scanned the streets as he drove through greek row. slutty girls, and muscular guys. he would never regret the day he decided not to go to college. no way was he going to pay those tuition fees to be surrounded by ugly skanks and idiotic boys. he rolled his eyes as some girls waved to him. they probably didnt even see him, they just saw the nice big white escalade. he didnt even want the damn car in the first place, but he got it for a really nice price and he needed something big to drive all the bros around in.
his smile lit up even more as he saw a tall, thin girl standing outside the house. he rolled up beside her and put the car into park, before stepping out and walking around the vehicle to her. he didnt even say anything, he just wrapped his arms around her and hugged her. he breathed in the smell of her sweet perfume and hairspray lingering on her skin, and almost died of pure ecstasy. he squeezed her tightly. "i missed you, baby." he whispered against her neck, before pulling away. he smiled at her and cupped her face in his hands and kissed her lips softly, but firmly. "you ready to go?" he asked, his british accent coming out stronger than usual. he was excited, and that tended to happen. he went uber-english. he took the bag she was holding out of her hand and smiled. "go ahead and hop in." he put her bag next to his in the backseat and climbed into the drivers seat before taking off. he reached out and grabbed her hand and held it as he drove. "so tell me, baby. hows your day been?" he pulled the hand he was holding towards his lips and kissed it softly as she began to speak.

thalia hart was the sort of girl who dreamed of being a princess as soon as she learned the meaning of the word. she could easily remember cuddling on her mom’s lap, listening to princess stories and telling her that someday, she would be one. as she grew up, that thought of being a princess never went away. deep down, she knew that she was looking for her prince charming each time she dated a new boy and that somehow just made the hurt of them breaking up even worse, simply because she would finally convince herself that he was worth it.
she was lucky though. each time her little heart was broken, she would always turn to her best friend who would hold her and tell her how pretty and perfect she was and that when she found the right person, they weren’t going to break her heart. august had always made her feel better; there was something about the way she had always felt in his arms that made her want to keep coming back. it took her until her senior year of high school to realize what it was. she had liked him from the moment she had laid eyes on him one day during their freshman year of high school ,which was what gave her the courage to go up to him and introduce herself. it had definitely been the best decision of her life. her parents, though, thought she was an idiot. while thalia had plans to go to college and get a degree in interior design, august just wanted to work. which wasn’t a bad thing, of course, but her parents just didn’t seem to understand. it wasn’t like he was some deadbeat person; in fact, the boy was the complete opposite of that. however, her parents were convinced that if she stayed with him, she would end up starving on the streets.
whatever, she didn’t care what they thought. she was in college. she could do what she wanted. like, right now for instance. they had been planning the weekend ever since she had found out that he was going to be getting off early and would have the next day off. it was rare that things like this happened and so, as a result, nothing was going to stop her from seeing him. that friday had been god awful. she had been running late all day, her mind was definitely not in the classroom and frankly, it would have been better if she had just skipped. of course, on top of all that which had put her in a bit of a bad mood, she found out that her roommate was fighting with her boyfriend over something stupid and thus thalia had to step up into her mommy shoes to make petra feel better. however, as soon as the clock showed that august was going to be there in an hour, she carefully freed herself from her grip so that she could get ready. did she feel bad? of course she felt bad. but seeing petra was not nearly as important as seeing august was.
getting ready really wasn’t going to take her long. she had picked out a dress to wear ages ago and had slowly decided on the accessories to go along with it. after she changed, she let down her long hair that she had been wearing up all day, finger combing the waves and curls that had appeared. she wanted to look pretty for august, even though she thought that he thought that she looked good all of the time. packing though, on the other hand, was going to take longer. she had to pick out an outfit…and a back up. she never knew what she was going to be in the mood for, after all. after she had packed – a process that took a good 15, 20 minutes – she glanced at her alarm clock, smiling when she realized that she had ten more minutes before she could finally touch her boyfriend once more. she loved him so much and she realized that the longer and longer she had to go without him. sure, they texted a lot when she wasn’t busy in class and he wasn’t working and they had regular skype dates and phone calls, but it wasn’t the same. she needed to feel him holding her before she felt okay with everything.
finally, it was time to go and thalia grabbed her purse and her overnight bag. she quickly said good bye to her friends and finally headed out the door of her large sorority house, heading to the sidewalk in front of it where she had agreed to meet him. she never liked waiting for people alone outside of her house on a friday night. there were too many people milling around, a lot of whom looked sketchy or slutty. but when she saw august’s car pull up, she felt herself smile one of her great big, excited smiles and it widened when she saw him getting out of his car to come see her. as he hugged her, she smiled, letting her bag drop to the ground so that she could wrap her arms as tightly as she could around him, breathing in his familiar scent and taking in the physical closeness that she had missed so much since she had last saw him. “i missed you too.” she said, softly, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “so much.” as he pulled away, she shivered slightly from the temperature change, but he was holding her face and kissing her, which just made her smile all the more. “yes i’m ready.” she said, quickly crouching down to grab her bag. “god you are just too cute when your little accent comes out. i love it.” she really did; after all, what girl didn’t want a hot boy with an accent on her arm? as he took her bag, she followed his suggestion and settled herself in the passenger seat, quickly buckling her seatbelt as he got in. before she knew it, his hand had grabbed hers and everything just felt so ridiculously right. she didn’t even know how to explain it. “my day was awful.” she stated with a slight shrug, letting her head fall back against the seat. “i’ve been running late all day and petra – you remember her, right? my roommate? – she was having trouble with her boyfriend and cried all over me.” she frowned, pursing her lips for a moment. “but it’s so much better now that i get to be here with you. i’ve been looking forward to seeing you since, like, i don’t know. forever.” she laughed lightly, squeezing his hand. “how was your day, august? i hope it was better than mine.” she was just in such an amazing mood. she was touching her boyfriend for the first time in what felt like forever, she was going to get to spend the night with him, and she was desperate to make the best of the day that they were going to have together. “i love you.” she said, suddenly when there was a small break in their conversation. “so, so, so much. what are we doing for dinner?” she was so ever curious, but frankly, she was just happy to be spending this time with him. they could do anything and she would be happy, just because she was with him.
